Case No. 14278Sexual offences against a child · Co. Limerick · 2 Aug 2019

Court of Appeal increases sentence for Limerick man who arranged to meet a teenage boy for sex

Daniel Lasota (45), originally from Poland and a self-employed accountant of Carr Street, Limerick, pleaded guilty to meeting a 15-year-old boy at a playground in County Limerick to have sex, after he accessed the Grindr app on 2 August 2019. Gardaí traced him through CCTV of his Volvo car and an EVOFIT of his face, then searched his home and seized his mobile phone. In March 2024 Limerick Circuit Court imposed a sentence of two and a half years with the final 18 months suspended, for one count of meeting a boy for sex and two counts of using communication technology to facilitate the sexual exploitation of a child. In March 2025 the Court of Criminal Appeal found that sentence an error in principle and unduly lenient, and jailed Lasota for six years.
