Case No. 22789Rape

Court of Appeal increases Romanian rapist Costel Pirvu's effective sentence from 6.5 to 8.5 years

The Court of Appeal found that the reduction applied to Romanian national Costel Pirvu's 10-year rape sentence because he could not speak English was excessive, substituting a sentence of 10 years with only the last year-and-a-half suspended, up from the original 6.5-year effective term. Pirvu had raped a 19-year-old woman with a mild intellectual disability three times in a town in the west of Ireland.
