Court hears judge can't review Boy B's sentence in Ana Kriegel murder case
The Central Criminal Court judge Mr Justice Paul McDermott accepted on 19 January 2026 that he cannot review the 15-year detention sentence he imposed on Boy B in 2019 for the 2018 murder of schoolgirl Ana Kriegel in Lucan, following a Supreme Court ruling that sentencing courts lack jurisdiction to review terms of detention for child offenders. Boy A, who was sentenced to life with a review after 12 years, will appeal his sentence in light of the same ruling.
