Ireland Cork woman jailed for screwdriver attack on another woman in Mayfield
On 11 October 2021, Jennifer Cronin, a 43-year-old woman, went to a woman's home at Lagan Grove in Mayfield, Cork city, at 10am and stabbed her fourteen times with a screwdriver, with wounds to the face, scalp and other parts of her body. Cronin was arrested two days after the attack and later pleaded guilty at Cork Circuit Criminal Court to assault causing harm and producing a screwdriver, though the judge said the plea came two days into the trial and was of little benefit. The judge described the attack as based on jealousy of a romantic nature and on the upper end of the scale, and noted Cronin's 51 previous convictions. Reports of the sentence on 12 February 2024 differ: one says Cronin was jailed for two years, another that she was jailed for three years with the final year suspended.
