Ireland Clare man jailed for 11 and a half years over abuse of daughter
Patrick Honan, 69, of Lake View, Doonbeg, Co. Clare, was jailed for 11 and a half years for sexually abusing and raping his daughter, Noreen Honan, between 1977 and 1989, when she was aged between three and a half and 16. The victim made a complaint to gardaí in 2019, and Honan was arrested in July 2020 and denied the allegations when interviewed. In February, after a Central Criminal Court trial, he was found guilty of 48 sample counts, including 25 of rape and 23 of indecent assault, and he does not accept the verdicts. In April 2024 Ms Justice Siobhán Lankford imposed a 13-year sentence with the final 18 months suspended, backdated to when Honan entered custody, and directed him not to approach his daughter.
