Case No. 1782Violent disorder (breach of suspended sentence) · Co. Limerick · 28 Oct 2019

Chaudri sentenced for violent disorder at Limerick nightclub

In the early hours of 28 October 2019, Cillian McCarthy, a 20-year-old man from Ballysimon, was punched and kicked inside and outside the Icon nightclub on Upper Denmark Street, Limerick City, suffering a fractured right eye socket that required surgery. Kyle Hayes, a 25-year-old man from Ballyoshea, Kildimo, Craig Cosgrave, a 24-year-old man, and Jai Chaudri, a man who was 18 at the time, were charged with violent disorder, with Hayes and Chaudri also charged with assault causing harm, and all pleaded not guilty at Limerick Circuit Criminal Court. A jury in December 2023 convicted Hayes of two counts of violent disorder and acquitted him of assault causing harm, and acquitted Cosgrave of violent disorder. Hayes received concurrent fully suspended sentences of 18 months and two years in March 2024 plus €10,000 compensation, and a 2024 dangerous driving conviction triggered a Section 99 re-entry in which he was deemed suitable for 180 hours of community service in April 2025. In March 2026, Chaudri was convicted of violent disorder and given a fully suspended one-year sentence with €5,000 damages to McCarthy.
