Carer pleads guilty to theft from elderly couple in Dublin
Angela Manning, a 58-year-old woman from Ballinteer, Dublin, was hired as a carer for elderly couple Laetitia Lynam and Enda O'Regan, who self-isolated during the pandemic. Between April 2019 and September 2021, Manning used the couple's ATM card and pin to withdraw over €100,000, telling gardaí she was depositing the cash into a Bitcoin wallet as part of a Facebook romance scam. Lynam contacted gardaí in September 2021 after an online payment failed, and CCTV footage showed Manning withdrawing cash. Manning pleaded guilty to seven sample charges under the Theft and Fraud Offences Act at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court in July 2023, and the case was adjourned for finalisation until 27 July 2023.
