Browne's Steakhouse workers awarded €102,001 for employment rights breaches after gangland shooting

On Christmas Eve 2023, Tristan Sherry, 26, fatally shot gangland figure Jason Hennessy Snr at Browne's Steakhouse in Blanchardstown Village, Dublin 15, and was then beaten to death by a group. Three men were convicted of Sherry's murder: Michael Andrecut, 23, of Blanchardstown, received a mandatory life sentence at the Central Criminal Court on 10 April 2025, while David Amah, 19, of Donabate, and a third man now aged 18 (both 17 at the time of the offence) were also convicted but are not subject to the mandatory life term, with their sentences to be finalised at a later stage. Jaures Kumbu, 19, was sentenced to three years in prison with the final year suspended for removing the sub-machine gun from the scene. The Workplace Relations Commission subsequently awarded six former workers of the restaurant, which closed on the night of the shooting, a total of €102,001 for breaches of statutory redundancy, working time and notice pay provisions.
