Boy sentenced for dangerous driving causing death in Headford

Two 14-year-old teenagers, Kirsty Bohan and Lukas Joyce, died after a Volkswagen Passat driven by a boy then aged 13 crashed into a tree at Glennagarraun, near Headford, Co Galway, in the early hours of Easter Monday, 10 April 2023. A teenage girl was also seriously injured in the single-vehicle collision. The boy, now 15, was charged in October 2023 with five offences including dangerous driving causing death and appeared at Ballinasloe District Court, where he was granted bail. In July 2024 he pleaded guilty at Galway Circuit Court, where Judge Brian O'Callaghan bound him to the peace under section 98 of the Children's Act rather than making a detention order.
