Case No. 6738Assault causing harm; false imprisonment · Co. Dublin · 19 Jul 2022

Appeal court finds Dublin assault sentence too lenient

Cameron Curtis, a 20-year-old man from Finglas, pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to eight counts of assault causing harm and one count of false imprisonment of his partner Alannah Corrigan, a 20-year-old woman, over two months in summer 2022. The assaults, which included kicking, punching, slapping, strangling, and threats with a knife and scissors, took place at the Royal Marine Hotel in Dun Laoghaire and at Binary Hub in Dublin 8. Judge Orla Crowe sentenced Curtis to 18 months in prison in July 2023, backdated to 19 September 2022. In January 2024, the Court of Appeal ruled the sentence was unduly lenient and adjourned the case to 1 March for an updated probation report before resentencing.
