Case No. 2798Murder · Co. Limerick · 9 Nov 2008

Appeal against Limerick murder conviction dismissed

Shane Geoghegan, 28, was shot five times with a Glock semi-automatic pistol near his home at Clonmore, Kilteragh, Dooradoyle, Limerick on 9 November 2008 in a case of mistaken identity. Barry Doyle, 38, admitted during Garda interviews that he shot Geoghegan, and was found guilty by a jury at the Central Criminal Court and given a mandatory life sentence on 16 February 2012. John Dundon, 41, was convicted at the Special Criminal Court in 2013 of ordering the hit and is serving a life sentence. On 5 December 2024, the Court of Appeal dismissed Dundon's appeal, rejecting his argument that a recorded prison phone call between witnesses Lisa Collins and Christopher McCarthy could have undermined the credibility of key prosecution witnesses.
