Antoin Duffy charged with Denis Donaldson murder at Special Criminal Court after extradition from Scotland
Denis Donaldson, a 55-year-old Irish man and former Provisional IRA member and senior Sinn Féin official who had been exposed as an MI5 informant, was shot dead on 4 April 2006 at an isolated cottage near the Glenties in south-west Donegal. On 19 November 2007 Liam McGinley was the subject of an attempted murder at Churchill, Co Donegal. Antoin Duffy, a 49-year-old Irish man from Braade, Kincasslagh, Co Donegal, who had been in prison in Scotland after a 2015 conviction for his part in a plot to murder UDA members, was extradited from Scotland on a European arrest warrant and arrested at Casement Aerodrome, Baldonnell, Dublin. On 30 March 2026 he was charged at the Special Criminal Court with Donaldson's murder, the attempted murder of McGinley and four Firearms Act 1925 offences, and the court made an order for a non-jury trial. He was remanded in custody after legal aid was approved and is due to appear again on 13 April.
