Case No. 5218Assault causing harm; criminal damage · Co. Cork · 19 Aug 2024

12-year-old girl seriously injured in gang attack on Charleville house, Cork

On Monday 19 August 2024 at about 11.30pm, a gang wearing balaclavas attacked a house on the New Line in Charleville, Co. Cork, damaging a car and kicking in the front door, and a 12-year-old girl was seriously injured. She was taken by ambulance to Cork University Hospital and later transferred to Children's Health Ireland at Temple Street in Dublin, where Gardaí said she was in a serious but stable condition and sources said her surgery went well. Gardaí believe the attack may be linked to an aggravated burglary at a caravan in Co Limerick in early August and are examining social media accounts of members of both families. No arrests or charges have been reported, and as of 21 August Gardaí were still appealing for witnesses and for CCTV and dash-cam footage.
